One Herbs Gan Cao Yi Yi Da Zao Tang is a gluten-free modification of the classical formula Gan Mai Da Zao Tang. Gan Cao Yi Yi Da Zao Tang functions to nourish the Heart, calm the spirit, harmonize the middle burner, drain damp, and clear heat. Yi Yi Ren is substituted for Xiao Mai. Xiao Mai is considered sweet, slightly salty, and cool. It is said to augment the Heart Qi, inhibit the Heart fluids, clear heat from the pores and interstices, and stop spontaneous sweating and night sweats whereas Yi Yi Ren is considered sweet, bland, and slightly cold. It has an affinity for the Spleen, Lungs, Stomach and Kidney. Yi Yi Ren is also said to tonify the Spleen and augment the Lungs, leach out dampness from the bones, sinews and muscles, cool heat and expel pus to treat sores and abscesses. In Gan Cao Yi Yi Da Zao Tang, Yi Yi Ren pairs well with Gan Cao and Da Zao since it clears heat, drains damp, goes to the Kidneys, and has an affinity for the lower body (as it is used in Er Maio San, San Maio San, and Si Miao San). It may be effective at treating Shen Disturbance and calming anxiety while tonifying the Qi.
