Bupleurum Entangled Qi Formula is a modification of the traditional Bupleurum and Cyperus Combination (Chai Hu Xiang Fu Tang) with herbs specific for treating lump formation. Lump formation is a result of Qi and blood stagnation combined with phlegm accumulation. Taraxacum (pu gong ying) eliminates heat and toxins. Trichosanthes root (tian hua fen) reduces inflammation and dispels pus. Vaccaria (wang bu liu xing) invigorates blood circulation and is traditionally used to remove tumors. Red peony (chi shao), salvia (dan shen), tang kuei (dang gui) and ligusticum (chuan xiong) invigorate the blood. Blue citrus (qing pi) treats pain and swelling and disperses stagnant Qi. Prunella (xia ku cao) reduces swelling and has anti-toxic effects. Fritillaria (zhe bei mu) disperses lumps. Cyperus (xiang fu) is anti-spasmodic and relieves pain.
