A fixed staircase is installed leading up to the front wall and floor and can be supplied with round or square balustrades to harmonize with FlexStep. The ramp folds down for the user to roll onto/off the platform. The ramp is raised and locked before the lift can start to move. Pressure plates under the platform stop the lift operation if an object is detected under the platform. Infra-red safety device between the steps minimizes the risk of crushing. In the event of overload or uneven weight distribution, the platform will stop automatically. Acoustic alarms inform the user of all the lift's movements. There are batteries in the FlexStep that provide power to the system in the event of an outage. Fixed steps are available in step widths of 700 mm, 800 mm, 900 mm or 1,000 mm.
