Description

5-methyltetrahydrofolate, or 5MTHF or methyl folate, is the most biologically active form of the B-vitamin folate.  For years the medical profession, and even the FDA, have used the terms folate and folic acid interchangeably; however, folic acid and folate are not the came.  Folic acid is the synthetic form which has been used in medicines and dietary supplements for years.‡

While folic acid has high bioavailability, there is a fairly complex process in the body to convert folic acid to the metabolically active form – 5-methyltetrahydrofolate – which requires a number of enzymes, adequate liver and intestinal function, and the availability of vitamins B2, B3, B6, vitamin C and serine.  The lack of these compounds, or compromised liver or intestinal function, may impair the body’s ability to properly convert and absorb folic acid.‡

Supplementation with Methyl Folate may enhance the body’s ability to absorb folate in many people.‡

Taking folate as Methyl Folate can help provide nutritional support for your brain and body.  This versatile supplement is also fundamental to the growth and renewal of our cells, helps regulate potentially harmful homocysteine, promotes healthy pregnancy, and is essential for mood, cognition, behavior, and overall brain and body health.

Methyl from MF is needed from the moment of fertilization of the human egg, through the development of the brain, heart and other organs, to birth, and across the lifespan. All our cells need methyl groups to make their DNA, repair ongoing DNA damage, and regulate their utilization of DNA.
