Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is also called ubiquinone, a name that signifies its ubiquitous (widespread) distribution in the human body. CoQ10 is used by the body to transform food into adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the energy on which the body runs. It is a component of the mitochondrial electron transport system in cells, which supplies energy required for all physiological functions.‡
CoQ10 is an important coenzyme present primarily in the mitochondria of the cells (the “powerhouse” of the cell). CoQ10 plays an important role, facilitating the production of ATP – and important energy source. An antioxidant that protects cells from the effects of aging, CoQ10 has been used for decades to support the cardiovascular system, sustain natural energy, serve as a potent antioxidant and decrease cellular oxidative stress levels, support liver health, etc. CoQ10 levels are highest in cardiac cells.‡
Most common prescriptions medicines for cholesterol (statins) reduce blood levels of CoQ10, so supplementation with CoQ10 is important to maintain and support cardiovascular health.‡
Warning: If you are pregnant or lactating woman, have any health conditions, or are taking any medication, make sure to consult your healthcare provider prior to use.
